Definitions of words, hat fabrics/materials, and all other related terms all about hats.
What Does Structured Or Unstructured Mean?
Structured means that the two front panels of the hat are supported by a stiffer fabric called "buckram" it helps to maintain the shape of the hat.
Unstructured means that the two front panels of the hat are not supported the hat is designed so that the two front panels "flop" flat when you set it on a table.
What Does Low, Mid, Or High Profile Mean?
The profile has to do with the slant of the front of the hat:
Low-Profile - this is the least steep slant to the front of the hat and is normally associated with a sport or golf style hat
Mid-Profile - this is a bit steeper slant to the front of the hat and is normally associated with what a baseball player would wear. Additionally, this style hat tends to be a bit of a deeper fit
High-Profile - this is almost a straight-up slant to the front of the hat and normally associated with a "trucker" style hat.
How Does Washed Or Unwashed Cotton Look?
A washed cotton hat will have a duller look and softer feel to the fabric.
An unwashed cotton hat will have a more brilliant fabric color and normally the fabric has a smooth finish.
What Are The Different Types Of Hat Closures?
Plastic Snap - two plastic tabs at the back of the hat that snap together to adjust your hat fit
Velcro - two fabric straps at the back of the hat that Velcro together to adjust your hat fit
Metal Buckle - two fabric straps at the back of the hat where you feed one strap through a square style buckle that clamps down to adjust your hat fit
Slide Buckle - two fabric straps at the back of the hat where you feed both straps through a buckle that slides to adjust your hat fit
Is one hat closure better than another?
It is strictly personal preference most men prefer either velcro or one of the buckle styles; most ladies prefer the slide buckle as their hair will get caught in the Velcro
What Is Moisture-Wicking?
Moisture-wicking or dry-wicking fabric is a type of material ideally used for outdoor clothing and sportswear including hats/caps. It draws sweat out (wicks off) of your skin to the outside of the fabric where it spreads rapidly and dries out. Thus, it gives your skin that comfortable, dry, non-sticky feel while wearing it..
